Go Find Your Trainers!

I've been listening to two very different podcasts this morning one about counselling and one about veganism (-yes, I get enough protein, no I'm not going to convert you!) but the overwhelming consensus was the end point is not the goal (wait, what? Bear with me and I'll try to explain)

Yes, a goal gives us something to aim for but the important thing is how you get there. Becks, what do you mean? Well, I often talk with clients about running a marathon, we look at how to get to that end goal, I am definitely no runner and I am not about to put on my trainers and go run 26.2 miles, it's too much and it's overwhelming. Let's face it it's going to put me right off before I've even located those elusive trainers, I'm setting myself up to fail and that is going to leave me feeling deflated, useless and unmotivated, It's just too hard.

But what can I do to make this goal more accessible? Well, I can train, yes, but before I can train, I have to put on my running gear, and before I do that, I've got to find my trainers!

So, one of the first thing to do is to decide on a plan, break that huge task into smaller pieces, start small- keep it easy and manageable.

But before that look at what you need to achieve that plan, you want to train then go find the trainers, keep it easy- keep your trainers by the front door, because if you have to spend 20 mins turning the house upside down before you even get out the door the motivation and impetus has gone.

Now you can start to implement those small steps and keep it consistent, if you run for 30 secs each day for 3 days a week, that's progress it's 90 secs more than you did last week, keep it easy and manageable find what works for you and keep the momentum going.

You're making the changes, you're beginning to notice a difference so celebrate those achievements, be accountable to yourself, high five you, you're doing the work and it's paying off, you're beginning to build those habits by following an easy manageable plan.

Of course we're not talking about running, we're talking about making life changes that support you reaching and maintaining your own goals, start small, keep it easy and manageable and acknowledge your achievements.

Now, where did I leave my trainers!
